Prof. CR RAO - Founder
C.R. Rao was born on 10 September 1920 in Huvanna Hadagali, now in Karnataka State. He studied in schools at Gudur, Nuzvid, Nandigama, and Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh, and completed his M.A. degree in Mathematics at the Andhra University in Waltair, Andhra Pradesh. He did his M.A. degree in Statistics from Calcutta University in Kolkata, West Bengal.
C.R. Rao worked in India at the Indian Statistical Institute for 40 years before he took mandatory retirement at the age of 60. He moved to the USA and worked for another 25 years at the University of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania State University. In reply to a query put to him as to what particular achievement he is most proud of, C.R. Rao replied, “it is the outstanding contributions my students are making to statistical theory and practice.”
Dr. C. Rangarajan - President
Dr. C. Rangarajan is a highly regarded economist who boasts an impressive academic background. He graduated from Loyola College with a degree in commerce and went on to earn his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, Dr. Rangarajan has held numerous high-profile positions, including membership in the Planning Commission of India and the presidency of the Indian Econometric Society. He has also served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Rangarajan has been recognized for his contributions to the field of economics, receiving numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award in 2002. He currently holds the title of President of the CRRao Society.
Dr. V.K. Saraswat - Chairman
CR Rao AIMSCS is honored to have Dr. V.K. Saraswat serve as its Chairman. Dr. Saraswat is a highly regarded figure in the field of defense research and development, having served as the Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in India and as a Member of NITI Aayog. He holds advanced degrees, including a Ph.D. from Osmania University and an ME degree from the Indian Institute of Science. Throughout his career, Dr. Saraswat has made significant contributions to the development of indigenous missiles and the two-tiered Ballistic Missile Defence system. He has also initiated the 'Methanol Economy' program as a Member of NITI Aayog. His achievements have been widely recognized, and he has received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, as well as honorary doctorates from over 25 universities.
