The M.Tech (CS&ML) course is a 2-year full-time (four semesters) program. The program has been specially designed to meet the increasing need among professionals to be able to respond to the convergence between communication systems and machine learning. This program is designed with the following objectives:
The students will be required to spend the first two semesters at the DA-IICT campus at Gandhinagar, where they will take the core and elective courses. For thesis work, students can carry on the research work at DA-IICT or CR Rao AIMSCS based on their research interests.
The Programme requires every student to take four core courses and one elective in the first semester, three core courses and two electives in the second semester, and one elective subject in the third semester. The core courses are mandatory. For electives, the student will have an adequate choice of electives to dwell deeper into areas of their research interest or go beyond one's specialization. The students are required to pursue 6-week summer research or industrial internship after completing their second semester and before the start of their third semester. In the second year (third and fourth semester), a student will also need to pursue research (over the third and the fourth semesters) for their thesis.
The students admitted to the Programme would have to attend the first two semesters at DA-IICT. For the third and the fourth semesters, students will have an option to attend classes from DA-IICT or CR Rao Institute based on their research interests.
The detailed program structure, including core and elective courses, can be found here.

Candidates appearing in their final degree examination and expecting to complete it by July 2021 may also apply. However, their final admission will be subject to the condition that they obtain an aggregate of marks required based on the mode of admission, i.e., GATE/Non-GATE, or its equivalent as per the norms set by the degree-granting Institute/University. Candidates who have a valid GATE score in the disciplines of Electronics & Communication Engineering (E.C.) can apply. The final selection of the shortlisted candidates will be based on a personal interview.
The selection of the Non-GATE candidates will be based on their qualifying degree and performance in the interview. Weightage will be as follows:
Note: It is possible that at the time of finalization of admissions, some of the Universities in the country would not have announced their final year results.
